CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has publicly endorsed Prince Edward Rukidi Kiijanangoma as the new Omukama of Tooro, calling for preparations for his coronation.
In a series of posts on X on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Gen Kainerugaba referred to the new King as His Majesty Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.
“My fellow Ugandans the new Omukama of Tooro is His Majesty Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I. Long may he reign. God bless him always. God bless Tooro,” he wrote.
Gen Kainerugaba further said the new King had received approval from the Bachwezi, adding, “The Bachwezi have approved him.”
He later posted, “Ahangariza Agutamba,” before calling on those involved to focus on the coronation rather than legal battles.
“And I don’t want to hear of court cases. I want to hear of a Coronation date,” Gen Kainerugaba wrote.
His remarks come amid an ongoing dispute over the succession to the Tooro throne following the passing of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The Babiito Royal Clan recently announced Prince Edward Rukidi Kiijanangoma as the new Omukama, a decision that has faced opposition from members of the royal family who have questioned the process.
The succession dispute has also attracted government attention, with Attorney General Sam Mayanja previously advising that King Oyo’s will should guide the succession and that any dispute over its validity should be handled by court.
Despite the disagreements, Gen Kainerugaba has now made his position clear, backing Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I and calling for the process to move towards his coronation.
