Prince Mpuuga Patrick, a son of Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi Akiiki, has rejected his father’s role in the announcement of the new Omukama of Tooro.
In a press conferencee that held on Friday afternoon, Mpuuga says his late cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, left a will that clearly provides for the succession and should be respected and followed.
According to Oyo’s 2022 will, his biological son, if lawfully recognised, should be his heir to the Tooro throne. If the son is unable to succeed, the will names Prince Komwiswa Yoweri, as the next heir, followed by Prince Nyaika Solomon.
Mpuuga says he is surprised by how events have unfolded, particularly the decision to announce a new King despite the succession provisions contained in Oyo’s will.
The remarks come after Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma was announced as the next Tooro King by Babiito clan leaders on September 9, 2026 an announcement that was renounced by the kingdom princess and sister to the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, Ruth Komuntale and Princess Elizabeth Bagaya the auntie of King Oyo.
Prince Mpuuga insists that the will of the late King Oyo supersedes any other will of their grandfather King George Mathew David Kamurasi Rukidi III.
“We disagree with our own father, and it’s surprising that he has taken that turn. The will of the king, Omukama Oyo, supersedes any will that existed in the past.” Prince Mpuuga said.
