Singer Sheebah Karungi has urged the public to be more understanding of celebrities, reminding that public figures are human beings who experience feelings, challenges and personal struggles just like everyone else, so there was nothing new with her giving birth for a man who has older children.
Sheebah made the remarks while hosting fellow singer Winnie Nwagi on her podcast, Let’s Talk About It, where the two discussed relationships, family and the pressures that come with living in the public eye.
According to Sheebah, celebrities are often judged more harshly simply because of their public status, even when they go through situations that are common among ordinary people.
“People forget that we go through the same things as them but they make ours so big yet we are doing the same things,” Sheebah said.
The singer also reflected on the criticism she faced after welcoming her child, noting that the child’s father already has two other daughters.
Sheebah explained that while the situation attracted strong public reactions, blended families are common in Uganda and across Africa.
“Recently when I had my baby, my baby’s father has two other beautiful daughters but you’d think I was the first person to have a child with someone who already had kids,” she said.
She added that many families have children from different relationships and that such situations do not necessarily mean the children share both parents.
The singer said she has learned to accept criticism because people can make judgments without knowing the full circumstances surrounding someone’s personal life.
However, she admitted that she was surprised by the intensity of some of the reactions to her own situation simply because she is a celebrity.
“All because I’m Sheebah, it’s sad. It’s a blessing and a curse at the same time,” she said.
