Singer and presidential adviser Catherine Kusasira has opened up about her unconventional approach to parenting, emphasizing independence over inherited comfort.
Speaking in an interview with Spark TV, Kusasira made it clear that her focus is not on working to accumulate wealth for her children, but rather on equipping them with the tools to build their own futures.
According to the outspoken entertainer, creating ready-made comfort for children can weaken their motivation to work hard and achieve success on their own. She stressed that, just like her own upbringing, her children should not expect to find everything already prepared for them.
“I do not want to say that I am working for children. My things are my things. I do not work for children. They will work for their own things,” she explained.
“Even us, we did not find things in place from our parents. Every time you tell a child that you have prepared something for them, they do not get the energy to work for their own things.”
Kusasira highlighted education as the most important investment she can make in her children’s lives, noting that giving them a solid academic foundation is her way of securing their future.
She also shared some of the strict principles she has instilled in them. Among them is a firm stance on personal responsibility, including a warning that she will not take responsibility for treating sexually transmitted infections.
Additionally, she insists that any child brought into her home must be accompanied by a responsible partner capable of providing proper care.
Reinforcing her position, Kusasira concluded that her personal wealth and achievements are hers alone, and her children must carve out their own paths through hard work and determination.
