Netizens Boycott Segmento’s Music Following Controversial Remarks on Secular Music

Gospel singer Segmento is facing growing backlash on social media after comments he made about secular music sparked outrage among fans and fellow music lovers.

During a recent interview, the singer stated that he would never collaborate with a secular artiste, arguing that doing so would go against his Christian beliefs and calling on gospel musicians to remain committed to ministry rather than commercial success.

His remarks quickly divided opinion online. While some supporters praised him for standing firm in his faith, many netizens accused him of disrespecting secular artistes, pointing out that several renowned gospel musicians have previously collaborated with secular performers to spread positive messages.

The criticism intensified after Segmento’s comments were seen as taking indirect aim at fellow gospel stars Pastor Wilson Bugembe and Levixone, both of whom have worked with secular artistes in the past. Following the interview, the singer issued a public apology, admitting his statements were reckless and expressing regret to Bugembe and Levixone.

Despite the apology, a section of social media users has vowed to boycott his music, with some calling for radio and television stations to reduce airplay until he rebuilds public trust.

Whether the backlash will have a lasting impact on Segmento’s career remains to be seen, but the controversy has once again reignited debate over the relationship between gospel and secular music in Uganda.
